RUMFORD, Maine (WGAN) A Mexico man is under arrest for threatening incoming Oxford County Sheriff James Theriault.

The Oxford County Sheriff’s Office says 56-year-old Joseph Salatka was charged Thursday afternoon with Terrorizing, and was arrested in Rumford. A staffer at the State Fire Marshal’s Office in Augusta received a call from Salatka on Thursday morning, threatening Theriault’s life. Troopers were able to track Salatka to his location with caller ID.

Police say Salatka had an air pistol on him when he was taken into custody walking along Roxbury Road in Rumford.

Theriault was appointed by the governor to replace former Oxford County Sheriff Wayne Gallant, who resigned amid allegations that he sexually harassed members of his department.
