There’s some concern over wildfire possibilities in Maine as the entire state is under moderate fire danger.

The concern comes from increasing drought, with 77 percent of the state now under moderate or greater drought conditions.

Heavy rainfall Sunday is being followed by dry conditions moving through the week, and forecasters say more consistent rain is necessary to lower drought conditions.

Conditions have worsened since July after an early summer drought recovery in the state.

July turned out to be the third driest on record in Maine. One year ago, more than 15 percent of the state was under the most severe condition of exceptional drought.

The entire state is now under some level of abnormally dry condition, with severe drought now present in an area from coastal northern York County extending to Hancock County and inland to southern Penobscot County.
