A mother and daughter who claimed Maine State Police failed to respond to a request for protection in the days leading up to a deadly shooting rampage in 2015 in Aroostook County have settled their suit filed against the state.

According to the Portland Press Herald, Brittany and Kimberley Irish reached a $500,000 settlement with the state, which said the settlement “is not to be construed with an admission of liability” by the state and state police.

The pair filed the complaint in 2017, after Anthony Lord shot and killed Brittany Irish’s boyfriend, Kyle Hewitt, and 58-year-old Kevin Tozier during a crime spree two years prior. Four people were injured, including Kimberly Irish.

In the days leading up to the shooting, Brittany Irish said she contacted state police and Bangor police telling them Lord had kidnapped and raped her and that she needed protection from him.
