A motion by some Republicans in the Maine legislature to censure Democratic House Speaker Ryan Fecteau failed to get enough support in a vote on Thursday.

According to the Portland Press Herald, Rep. Shelley Rudnicki called for Fecteau to be censured after she says he broke House rules by holding a vote after 9 p.m. last Thursday without getting supermajority support for a late-night vote.

Democrats used their majority in the legislature that night to pass a two-year state budget.

Only 24 Republicans voted in favor of the motion to censure Fecteau.
