A 40-year-old motorcyclist is in critical condition after police say he crashed into a guardrail on an I-95 on-ramp in Fairfield over the weekend.

Maine State Police say they were called to the scene where bystanders were attempting first aid on Kyle Trull of Bangor, who had crashed on the northbound on-ramp to I-95 at mile marker 133 in Fairfield.

Trull was first taken to Maine General Medical Center in Waterville before being flown by Lifeflight to Maine Medical Center in Portland.

Police say he’s currently listed in critical condition.

Officers say their initial investigation shows speed was likely a contributing factor in the crash.

Trull was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, which remains under investigation. Helmets are not required for motorcycle riders over the age of 18.

The crash took place on Saturday at about 7:05 pm.
