A motorcyclist was critically injured when they struck a tree in Pownal Thursday night.

The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office says 23-year-old Joseph Vallee of Poland hit a tree after trying to pass another vehicle on a blind corner on Elmwood Road around 7:45 p.m.

Vallee was taken to Maine Medical Center with critical injuries.

The crash is still under investigation, but deputies say speed and reckless driving appear to be factors.
