Bonny Eagle Middle and High Schools, as well as Portland High School, are closed Thursday due to a threat made on social media.

All schools in MSAD 6 will be closed in response to the threat made over Snapchat. Captain Donald Foss with the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office said a photograph posted on the social media app showed handwriting on a wall that described an act of violence, and indicated it would occur on Thursday’s date.

Foss says the threat didn’t target a specific school or school district, and could not be confirmed to originate at Bonny Eagle High School.

The buildings were searched Wednesday but authorities didn’t find any reason to believe the threat was credible or anywhere in the schools. Investigators said Wednesday they hadn’t determined where the photograph had been taken.

Despite that, Captain Foss said schools are being closed out of an abundance of caution.

Students at Bonny Eagle will also not be learning remotely Thursday, but Portland High students will be.
