Multi-vehicle crash on Turnpike in Wells leaves one woman dead, others injured

A Maine woman died at the scene of a multi-vehicle crash on the Turnpike in Wells Friday morning.

Maine State Police responded to the crash at mile 20 southbound around 8:40 a.m. They determined that a Toyota Prius being driven by 23-year-old Oguzhan Cildir of Brighton, Massachusetts struck a Toyota Sienna minivan and a Toyota Tacoma pickup, which rolled over several times.

The driver of the pickup, 53-year-old Gloria Cascio of Albion, was pronounced dead at the scene. Her passenger was taken by LifeFlight to Maine Medical Center in Portland with serious injuries.

Cildir was brought to Maine Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the minivan suffered minor injuries and the driver of a fourth vehicle who couldn’t avoid the crash was not injured.

The Turnpike reopened to traffic around 12:30 p.m. Police said traffic was backed up for nearly 10 miles.

An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
