Navy secretary joined by Medal of Honor recipient in Maine

Acting Navy Secretary Thomas Harker attended a ceremony featuring a Medal of Honor recipient during a visit to Maine.

The namesake of the future USS Harvey Barnum Jr. joined in a ceremony Tuesday that marked the start of construction of the destroyer at Bath Iron Works. Barnum was honored for his bravery in Vietnam.

Afterward, Harker and Sens. Susan Collins and Angus King and Rep. Chellie Pingree traveled to Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in Kittery to see maintenance being conducted on the USS Texas, a Virginia-class nuclear-powered submarine.
