A new bill is being proposed that will harden Maine’s gun laws that follows the death of a four-year-old boy who was shot in Lewiston.

Last Saturday the boy was found with a gunshot wound to the head in the city.

The new bill aims to prevent accidental shooting in Maine by updating state code.

CBS 13 reports that the bill would make the negligent storage of a firearm in a home a crime if the child is under 18 and can access the weapon.

Advocates for the bill say that it could go a long way to keep guns from landing in the wrong hands.

The bill was sent to a work session earlier this month.
