New York Man Shot, Killed by Police in Skowhegan

Skowhegan Police Department

A New York man is dead after being shot in Skowhegan by police, who say he fired a gun in the air and then pointed the firearm at them.
Officers say 30-year-old Kenneth Ortega refused to stop walking on Water Street Saturday night when the shooting occurred.
Police say they confronted Ortega near a home where a caller reported suspicious activity after the resident had died earlier.
They say Ortega died at a hospital while the officer involved is on administrative leave, which is standard protocol when an officer is involved in a deadly force incident.
The Office of the Maine Attorney General will investigate the shooting.
