RICHMOND, Maine (WGAN) Roads near the I-295 exit in Richmond were shut down Monday morning following an explosion underground at a gas station.

It happened at the Quick Stop off Exit 42 around 11 a.m.

The Sagadahoc County Emergency Management Agency said the interstate was closed between Exit 43 in Richmond and Route 127, or Main St.

No fire, smoke, or damage was reported. There were also no reports of injuries.

A fuel tank technician told our info partners at CBS 13 news that only the fumes ignited, not the unleaded gas inside the tank. The cause of the explosion is under investigation.

First responders and state agencies were at the scene to investigate.
