North Carolina Man Killed in Snowmobile Accident in Maine

ROCKWOOD, Maine (WGAN) The body of a man from North Carolina who was reported missing Tuesday evening has been found in Rockwood.

55-year-old Willard Hartsock from Old Fort, North Carolina, was declared dead around 1:00am Wednesday when his body was found along a portion of Interconnecting Trail System 88, a snowmobile trail, in Taunton and Raynham Academy Grant. Wardens and police say Hartsock had been staying at a rental property on Lake Street in Rockwood.

Authorities believe Hartsock was killed when his snowmobile rolled onto him after he tried to put it in reverse.

Game Wardens say there’s been very little snow in the Rockwood region and trails have been mostly unused so far this year. Police say this is the first snowmobile death of the year.

The incident remains under investigation.
