Interstate 95 northbound in Augusta was closed Monday morning after police say they responded to a report of “a man sitting alone inside a car with a gun.”

The incident occurred on the off-ramp at Exit 113.

The Maine Turnpike Authority first reported the road closure at 6:50 a.m., saying the northbound lanes of the interstate had been shut down due to a “law enforcement emergency.”

Northbound traffic had to be detoured off the highway at the Civic Center Drive exit.

State police said at about 8:30 a.m. that the road was back open, but they provided no further information on the incident that led to the road closure.
