SPRINGVALE, Maine (WGAN) The city of Sanford has identified the 71-year-old city worker who died in an accident while hanging Christmas wreaths on Monday afternoon.

The city says William Thyng was using a bucket truck along with another employee to hang decorations up on Main Street in Springvale. Thyng was run over by the truck he had been operating and pronounced dead at the scene. It’s not yet clear how he was run over or why he had stepped out of the vehicle.

The worker in the bucket at the time was not injured.

The incident is still being investigated.

Thyng was employed by the city in 2012 and had been working since then as a seasonal employee with the Department of Parks and Recreation.
