RICHMOND, Maine (AP) Authorities in Maine say they have recovered a body from the Kennebec River after searching for a Richmond man whose unoccupied boat ran aground near Swan Island.

The search for 64-year-old Mark Johnston got underway Thursday night after he was reported missing. The Maine Department of Marine Resources says the identity of the body will be confirmed by the Medical Examiner’s Office.

Jeff Nichols, spokesman for the Maine Marine Patrol, said Johnston’s boat was found with its engine running and navigation lights on, but there was no sign of Johnston.

He says state police and marine patrol divers responded to the scene, using a side-scan sonar device during their search. The body was found about 20 feet (6.1 meters ) from the town dock in 15 feet (4.57 meters) of water Friday afternoon.
