Investigators say a dog may be responsible for starting a fire that destroyed a Madison home Tuesday night.

The fire chief suspects that one of the dogs hit a knob on the stove, turning on a burner and causing something to catch fire.

The family that lives in the home wasn’t there at the time, but five dogs were inside.

According to the Bangor Daily News, all of the dogs were let out of the house by a person who noticed the fire and called 911.

The Red Cross is assisting the family that was displaced by the fire.
