AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) A Maine county emergency management director warns the heavy rains of the last few days may cause the Kennebec River to flood into low-lying areas.
Kennebec County Emergency Management Director Sean Goodwin says residents should plan for minor flooding on Friday. The Kennebec Journal reports the National Weather Service has issued a flood watch for Kennebec County.
Goodwin says most areas at the greatest risk of flooding are mainly used as parking lots.
It is common for minor flooding to occur in the Augusta area every spring, as rivers swell from melting snow farther north into Maine.
