Ohio man charged with leading Maine State Police on high-speed chase

FAIRFIELD, Maine (WGAN) Maine State Police say an Ohio man was arrested Friday in Fairfield following a high-speed chase.

Police said they received a complaint around 12:30 p.m. of a silver 4-door sedan with Florida plates operating erratically and speeding southbound on I-95 in Pittsfield. A Trooper attempted to stop the vehicle, but police say the driver refused to stop and began passing vehicles in the break down lane.

Police followed the vehicle into Clinton where it exited the interstate. The vehicle was eventually stopped in Fairfield. The driver, identified as 24-year-old Patrick Smith of Ohio, was taken into custody without incident.

He was charged with several crimes, including eluding an officer, driving to endanger, and criminal speed. He was taken to Somerset County Jail.
