OLD TOWN, Maine (AP) Officials say state troopers shot and killed a man in a confrontation outside a home in Old Town, Maine.

State Police spokesman Steve McCausland said the shooting happened around 9 a.m. Tuesday, hours after the state police tactical team and negotiators were called to the home. Police say the man, 31-year-old Thomas Powell III, was a suspect in a burglary in which an SUV was stolen Monday afternoon in Surry.

The Maine attorney general’s office is investigating as it does all officer-involved shootings.

Two members of the state police tactical team who fired their weapons have been placed on administrative leave.
