One Critical, Another Unaccounted for in Palermo Fire

A man is in critical condition, and another person is not accounted for after a fire burned a home to the ground in Palermo late Monday night.

Crews were sent to the residence at 98 Leeman Arm Road, where found the home under heavy fire conditions.

They say they found a severely burned man in the roadway near the residence, who told them another person was inside.

The man was taken by ambulance to a hospital in Augusta and was later flown to Maine Medical Center in Portland in critical condition.

The Maine State Fire Marshal’s Office says a team of six investigators has been conducting recovery efforts for the second victim.

The office says recovery efforts for the second victim are ongoing, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
