1 dead, 1 critically injured after fire and explosion destroy Palermo home

Maine Department of Public Safety

One person is dead and another in critical condition after a fire burned a home to the ground in Palermo late Monday night.

Crews were sent to the scene on Leeman Arm Road where they found a severely burned man in the roadway near the residence who was flown to Maine Medical Center in Portland in critical condition.

The State Fire Marshal’s Office says six investigators conducted recovery efforts to find a second victim, whose body was recovered from the building and taken to the medical examiner.

The office says propane was used in the home, but the cause of the fire is under investigation.
