One Dead, One Critically Injured in Wilton House Fire

House fire in Wilton - Maine State Fire Marshall's Office

One person is dead and another has critical injuries from a house fire in Wilton over the weekend.

The state Fire Marshall’s Office says firefighters were sent to 62 Magrath Road in Wilton on Saturday, where a neighbor had found 84-year-old Robert Adams, who had jumped out of a window.

The neighbor and a police officer then pulled out 81-year-old Sharon Rainey from the home with serious burn injuries.

Both Adams and Rainey were taken to Franklin Memorial Hospital and later flown by LifeFlight to Maine Medical Center in Portland where Ms. Rainey later died from her injuries.

The Fire Marshall’s office says Adams remains in critical condition, while the neighbor and Wilton police officers were treated at the hospital for smoke inhalation.

They say a preliminary investigation suggests that a chimney fire may have been the cause of the fire, but the investigation remains ongoing.
