A 66-year-old Medway woman is dead and a child has serious injuries from a crash on Main Street in East Millinocket Friday.

Police say the woman crossed the center line into the path of an oncoming service truck and then swerved back into her own lane and was hit by the truck, which was trying to avoid the crash.

Officers say the car was heavily damaged in the front end. The truck rolled over.

The woman and two children in the car, ages six and eight, were taken to Millinocket Regional Hospital.

The woman and one of the two children in the car were then taken by LifeFlight to Northern Light EMMC hospital in Bangor, where the woman died and the child was stabilized in serious condition.

The other child had minor injuries while the truck driver, a 35-year-old man from Millinocket. refused treatment at the scene.

The road was reportedly closed for several hours due to the crash.

The East Millinocket Police Department say they were helped by the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office, the Maine Warden Service, and members of the Maine State Police.

The crash is still under investigation.
