One person dead in excessive speeding crash in Scarborough

One person is dead after their car veered off the road and hit a rock and utility pole on Payne Road in Scarborough Saturday afternoon.

Police say they received a 911 call from a driver on I-95 that someone driving at reckless speeds had hit their car on the highway before taking exit 42.

The 911 caller followed the car and witnessed the driver strike the guardrail several times before turning onto Payne Road where they crashed.

According to CBS 13, the driver, who was female, died at the scene.

The crash is under investigation.
