Firefighters say a propane gas explosion is likely the cause of a fire in Bangor Monday that seriously injured a person.

The Bangor Fire Department and Bangor Police Department were sent to a reported fire at 75 4th St. in Bangor at about 5:40 am.

Firefighters say the building was a condemned single-family home that had been boarded up by the city,

They say there was no one inside, but a person who was in the house at the time of the fire sustained serious burn injuries.

He was taken to a Bangor hospital and then transferred to Maine Medical Center in Portland for further treatment.

Two firefighters suffered minor injuries during the response and were treated on scene.

The fire caused significant damage to the structure.

Fire Marshal investigators worked alongside Bangor Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division throughout the day to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
