BUXTON, Maine (WGAN)  Buxton Police say one person was seriously hurt in a car accident Monday night.

Police say officers responded to the area of 590 Parker Farm Road, or Route 112,  around 8:10 p.m. Monday night to a reported motor vehicle crash.

Police say one driver was trapped in their vehicle and had serious injuries.  Buxton Fire-Rescue were called to the scene to free the driver.

Police say the driver of that car was 56-year-old Thomas Dewitt.  He was freed from the car and taken to Maine Medical Center with serious injuries.  Dewitt was the only person inside his car.

Police say a second car involved in the accident was on the side of Fogg Road, a short distance away, when they arrived.

Police say the driver of that car was 26-year-old Brandon Buzynski.  He and his two passengers were uninjured in the accident.

Police say both cars were travelling east during the crash and a preliminary investigation suggests speed and reckless driving may have been factors.

Police are investigating the crash and are asking any witnesses to call the police department at (207) 929-6612.
