Operator of front loader pronounced dead after accident

A man was pronounced dead after the front loader he was operating crashed into a ditch and rolled over in Northport.

According to CBS 13, the incident happened around 7 p.m. Tuesday on Atlantic Highway.

Witnesses told the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office the machine was rolling backwards down the road before it went into the ditch.

Deputies say Scotty Richards, 62, of Northport was ejected from the machine and later pronounced dead.

The incident remains under investigation.
