PORTLAND, Maine (AP) — The mayor of Maine’s largest city met with an organizer of an encampment for homeless people that has been set up outside City Hall, but the two sides have yet to reach an agreement about the future of the camp.

Portland Mayor Kate Snyder met with organizer Jess Falero before the City Council meeting on Monday night. Neither the mayor nor the City Council committed to any action about the camp during the meeting, the Portland Press Herald reported.

The camp is located outside City Hall, on its steps and on side streets near the building. Residents of the camp and demonstrators who support them have said they want the city to decriminalize camping outside and establish overdose prevention sites in the city, among other changes that would benefit Portland’s homeless community.

There are sometimes about 200 people at the camp site, which started as a small group of tents on July 22.
