A 51-year-old Orrington faces arson charges for a fire at his family’s home back in January that completely destroyed the building.

The State Fire Marshal’s Office says it found items on Monday that Mark Meierdirk had moved from the residence prior to the fire and stored in a nearby outbuilding.

The office says Meierdirk was arrested after a months long investigation, including interviews with several witnesses, and a review of financial records.

He’s charged with two counts of arson, one for causing a fire to allow a person to collect insurance proceeds, and the other for damaging or destroying the property of another.

Meierdirk was taken to the Penobscot County Jail with bail was set at $10,000 cash.
