An overloaded power strip is being blamed for a fatal house fire in Pittsfield over the weekend.

Emergency crews were sent to the home at 111 Cardinal St. shortly before 4 p.m. Sunday, and after extinguishing the fire, found a dead person inside the structure.

The person has been tentatively identified as 58-year-old Gili Brown, and the body was taken to the Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta for an autopsy and positive identification.

The Office of State Fire Marshal was called to the scene, which is standard protocol in the event of a fatal fire.

Investigators determined the origin and cause of the fire to be an overloaded power strip.
