Penobscot County man accused of sexually abusing 13-year-old girl

A Maine man accused of sexually abusing a 13-year-old girl faces up to 30 years behind bars.

According to the Bangor Daily News, 64-year-old Edwin Davis of Chester was arrested by Maine State Police on Thursday. He was charged with three counts of gross sexual assault.

The prosecutor told the paper the investigation began on March 8 when a student reported sexual abuse to a school counselor.

Davis is being held at Penobscot County Jail on $25,000 cash bail or $50,000 in property.

In addition to a prison sentence, Davis could be fined up to $50,000 and placed on the sex offender registry if convicted.

He’ll make his next court appearance on June 14.
