A Portland-based company has been named in a lawsuit stemming from a deadly apartment building fire in New York City.

The blaze at the 19-story building in the Bronx killed 17 people on Sunday, and was blamed on a malfunctioning space heater.

According to the Portland Press Herald, LIHC Investment Group, based out of Portland, is among the building’s three owners that are named in the suit filed by two residents.

The plaintiffs argue that the building’s self-closing doors malfunctioned at the time of the fire because they were not properly maintained, allowing smoke to spread through the building.

Though LIHC has partial ownership of the building, it was not responsible for day-to-day operations, according to the group’s spokeswoman.
