DEXTER, Maine (WGAN) The pilot of a small World War I-era replica plane is brought to the hospital after a crash at the Dexter Municipal Airport Wednesday morning.

The Bangor Daily News reports Rodney Wright of East Corinth was taxiing the experimental plane around 11:30 A.M. when a breeze lifted it up in the air, trapping him inside. The plane then crashed down, ending up upside down.

Wright was Lifeflighted to Bangor with a serious head injury.

The airport manager said the plane isn’t certified by the FAA and isn’t allowed to fly, but Wright is permitted to pilot the plane on the ground and had no intention of getting in the air.
