Over Memorial Day weekend, the Maine Law Enforcement Memorial in Augusta was vandalized.

The memorial had a wall honoring 88 officers, who died while serving in the military.

According to the Portland Press Herald, the granite wall was smothered with police tape and tarp Tuesday morning.

Through video surveillance, the police were able to confirm the time to be 3:45 a.m.

No more information will be released since the investigation is still ongoing.

However, County Sheriff Ken Mason took to Facebook, describing this incident as “heartbreaking.” Mason wrote that the military families affected by this vandalization will be the ones who will have to endure the “long-lasting” damage of the vandal or vandals.
