Police Cite Driver in Fatal Crash on Turnpike in Wells

WELLS, Maine (WGAN)  Police have identified the people involved in a fatal crash along the Maine Turnpike and say the driver was also cited.

Police say 54-year-old Gabino Ortiz was the driver of a car that went out of control and crashed into trees just before the Wells Exit on the Maine Turnpike Tuesday morning.

Police say his passenger, 19-year-old Uriel Vasquez, was killed.  Ortiz is being treated for non-life threatening injuries at Maine Medical Center.

The pair from Brockton, Massachusetts worked as drywallers and were on their way to a job site in Saco when the crash happened.

Police say Ortiz was cited for driving without a license.

Police have still not said what led to the crash.
