Police chase starts in Waterville, ends in crash in China

A police chase that started in Waterville ended after the suspect crashed his car into a state trooper’s vehicle.

Trooper Mickael Nunez suffered a broken leg.

The suspect, 53-year-old Robert Belmain of Caribou, was treated for head injuries.

Belmain was pulled over Sunday afternoon along Interstate 95 in Waterville.

Police say he sped away from the traffic stop and later crashed into the trooper’s vehicle on route 3 in China.

As of Monday afternoon, Maine State Police said both men were still hospitalized. Nunez had undergone surgery on his broken leg.

Belmain faces a number of charges.
