The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office is warning the public about a scam that primarily targets the elderly.

The scammers have been making contact by phone or email, telling the victim that a close friend or family member is in medical or legal trouble and needs money. They often pose as attorneys or bail bondsmen.

In recent cases, they’ve arranged to meet the victims in person at home or in a public setting to complete the transaction.

The Sheriff’s Office emphasizes that no credible institution will demand cash transactions or meet under those circumstances.
