Saturday is National Prescription Drug Take Back Day.

Locations across Maine will collect and safely dispose of unwanted prescription drugs.

That includes a collection site in the Back Cove parking lot, across from Hannaford.

The site, run by members of the Portland Police Dept., will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Officials say the goal is to provide a safe and convenient way of disposing of the drugs, while also educating the public about the dangers of abusing the medications.

Visit dea.gov/takebackday to find a complete list of collection sites.
