Police investigate armed robbery in Portland

Police in Portland are asking for help from witnesses as they investigate an armed robbery.

Officers responded to a report of a man with a gun on Gilman Street around 11:40 p.m. Saturday and found the 23-year-old victim. He told police three male suspects asked to use his phone and that he refused and ran off.

The victim says the three male suspects caught up with him and then began assaulting him, with one of them using a pistol to hit him. Police say the suspects then took the man’s belongings. He was taken to Maine Medical Center to be treated.

He described the suspects as two black males and one white male. Witnesses said they were wearing hooded sweatshirts and dark pants, and at least one was wearing a red shirt.
