Police investigate motive in assault of Bridgton couple

BRIDGTON, Maine (WGAN) State police are investigating after a Bridgton couple were attacked inside their home Wednesday morning.

Public Safety Spokesman Steve McCausland says Robert and Margaret MacDonald, both 77, were assaulted in their home on Innisfree Lane on Long Lake. Both were taken to Bridgton’s hospital and Margaret was later transported to Maine Medical Center in Portland by Lifeflight. The couple were being treated for serious head injuries.

Police took 37-year-old Michael Holden of Bridgton into custody after 911 was called around 8 a.m. The couple did not know Holden and police are attempting to determine a motive.
