BUXTON, Maine (WGAN)  Buxton Police are looking for the public’s help finding a wounded dog.

Police say Thursday afternoon, they were called to Fifield Drive to a report that a dog had been shot and was bleeding.

Police arrived and examined the dog, which police say appeared to be a Pitbull.  The dog had obvious injuries to its front and police say the injuries appeared to be from a firearm.

Police took the dog to the Animal Emergency Clinic on Warren Avenue in Portland for treatment.  Police say the wounds didn’t appear to be life-threatening.

Police started their investigation then and were told that a second Pitbull had been shot and fled the area before owners could catch it.  Police say witnesses reported seeing the dog near 1166 River Road, but it ran off before it could be caught.

Police say no one in the neighborhood witnessed the incident, but neighbors did report hearing what they described as gunshots.

Police are asking for the public’s help finding the second dog, described as being white with brown spots.  Police say the dog should have injuries to its hind quarter and they advise caution if you find the dog, since it’s injured.

Police are currently investigating and are asking anyone with information to call them.
