Police-involved shooting in Chelsea leaves wanted Dresden man dead

Police say a wanted Dresden man was fatally shot by police in Chelsea on Sunday.

According to the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, police were performing a search and arrest warrant for 28-year-old Frank Foss Jr. at a home on Hankerson Road in Chelsea. The sheriff’s office had an active warrant for Foss for firearm possession by a prohibited person and violating bail conditions.

Police said Foss pointed a handgun at a tactical team member in the woods outside the home and was shot and killed by a state police detective.

The detective was placed on paid administrative leave, which is standard for all police-involved shootings. The Maine Attorney General’s Office is investigating.
