Police say a suspect is in custody after an armed standoff overnight at one of the former Navy housing complexes in Brunswick.

It began after police responded to Neptune Drive after receiving a domestic disturbance call around midnight.

Police say they tried to contact the man, identified as 39-year-old Nick Christensen, several times, but he wasn’t responding or cooperating.According to media reports, police started firing tear gas into the apartment at about 6:30 a.m. Christensen did not immediately exit the building and wasn’t taken into custody until about 8:15 a.m.

Neighbors were told to stay inside their homes while the standoff was underway.

Christensen was charged with domestic violence and could be facing additional charges.
