Police on Monday morning said multiple people were being held hostage at a home in Livermore Falls.

According to the Sun Journal, Police Chief Ernest Steward Jr. said one of the hostages managed to escape. He said it was believed the hostages had been zip tied after a man broke into the home on Knapp Street early Monday morning.

In an update on Monday afternoon, police said three hostages managed to escape, leaving only the intruder barricaded inside along with one remaining hostage.

Steward said arrest and search warrants had been obtained for the house and a car.

Police had blocked off Cargill Street and a section of Knapp Street, as well as the ends of several other streets.

As a result of the incident, students at Spruce Mountain schools were dismissed early.
