AUGUSTA, Maine (WGAN) Maine State Police have released the likely identity of a woman who was found dead in a Water Street apartment in Augusta on Tuesday.

Police say they believe the body is that of 54-year-old Joan Hadley, who is formerly from Windsor but has been living as a transient for the last couple of years. Police are awaiting the results of further DNA testing for a positive ID.

There are no obvious signs of foul play and the death likely took place in the past two weeks.

Detectives tracked down the man who rents the apartment and he confirmed that Hadley had his permission to stay there while he was staying elsewhere.
