RICHMOND, Maine (WGAN) Maine State Police say a Richmond man shot and killed his girlfriend before turning the gun on himself.

State Police spokesman Steve McCausland says Kirk Alexander Jr. fatally shot Niomi Mello with a 9mm handgun, then shot himself. Both were shot in the head.

The couple’s bodies were found in the kitchen of their home on Saturday morning by Mellon’s 11-year-old son, according to police.

Police believe the shooting took place either late Friday night or early Saturday morning.
