OAKFIELD, Maine (WGAN)  State Police say one man was wounded in an officer involved shooting.

It happened in Oakfield, according to police.  Oakfield is in Aroostook County, about 10 miles south of Houlton.

Police say 54-year-old John Corneil was taken to the hospital in Houlton for treatment.

The shooting took place outside the Oakfield Thriftway store on Ridge Road, just after 11 a.m.

Police say a team of three State Troopers had gone to the store to arrest  Corneil, as part of an ongoing investigation, and there was an armed confrontation with the man and one of the troopers outside the store.

Police say the Trooper involved was Sgt. Chad fuller, a 20-year veteran of the State Police.

No police officers were injured.

As is standard practice with all police shootings, the Maine Attorney General’s Office will investigate the incident. State Police also sent a team of investigators to the scene.
