BURNHAM, Maine (WGAN) State police say the pilot of a plane that crashed in Burnham on Wednesday night was trying to make an emergency landing.

The plane went down in the woods along the Sebasticook River. The plane was attempting to make an emergency landing at the Pittsfield airport, not far from where it went down.

The Cessna single engine plane is owned by US Customs and Border Protection. The two crew members of the plane were able to walk away, although one remains hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries.

After crashing, one of the plane’s crew called 911 and gave information on their location. Game wardens and other law enforcement responded. Both men were located and taken to the Sebasticook Hospital in Pittsfield.

The FAA will investigate the cause of the crash. Police say it’s not yet known when the wreckage will be removed.
