CRANBERRY ISLES, Maine (AP) A Maine island lost power for about two hours after a speeding teenager crashed into a utility pole over the weekend.

Police say a 19-year-old Cranberry Isles resident was driving south on Great Cranberry Island when he failed to make a turn and drove off the road, crashing into a utility pole and overturning his vehicle Saturday evening. The Bangor Daily News reports the teenager and a friend, who also crashed his car, allegedly fled the scene.

Workers restored electricity to all but 375 customers around 11 p.m. Saturday. An Emera Maine spokeswoman says power to the rest was turned back on by 10 a.m. on Sunday.

Authorities say both drivers were found about eight hours after the crash and were charged with aggravated criminal mischief.
