DEXTER, Maine (WGAN) Police say the man who stole Dexter Police cruiser has been involved in a serious crash.

Police say around 11:30 Friday morning, 22-year-old Tyler Tibbetts stole the fully marked white Ford Explorer cruiser.  Police warned Tibbetts was armed and dangerous.

Around 1:20 p.m., police said the cruiser had been found abandoned on Parkman Road in Garland, but Tibbetts was still at large.

Police eventually found Tibbetts behind the wheel of another car travelling on Route 15 in Corinth.  Officers gave chase and say Tibbetts crashed into trees along Route 15.

Tibbetts was seriously injured in the crash and was trapped inside the wreck.

First responders were working to free him and a Lifeflight helicopter landed nearby to take him to Eastern Maine Medical Center.

Police say Tibbetts was alone in the car and they are not sure how he obtained it.

No officers were injured in today’s events, according to police.
